The Up Close and Musical series will return for another series of free concerts produced by Westfield on Weekends (WOW) and the music department of Westfield State University, beginning Saturday, October 24 with two formats of performances at both WOW’s downtown space and at Dever Stage at the university.
Now in its seventh year of performances, Up Close and Musical and its WSU counterpart, Music at Westfield will feature an eclectic range of vocal and instrumental music, including classical, blues, jazz, opera, Broadway and pop, in performances from September to December at the WOW Center, in the Westfield Downtown Cultural District and on the university campus.
The WOW Center at 105 Elm Street features intimate concerts with space holding up to seventy audience members, while Dever Stage in Parenzo Hall, on 577 Western Avenue is a larger venue, holding more than 500 audience members
The Music at Westfield concerts at Dever Stage on Saturday, October 24 at 7pm with “Musical Mayhem!” an evening of staged songs from Broadway, performed by the University’s Music Theatre Workshop.
Up Close and Musical will make its downtown debut on Friday, October 30 at 7 pm at the WOW Center, 105 Elm St., with a “Beethoven to Broadway” evening, featuring WSU students and faculty. A “Q and A” period after each selection will allow attendees to learn about the musicians, their instruments, repertoire and process.
