WOW AND ARTWORKS WESTFIELD EXTEND MAGIC in the GARDEN: Elves and Fairy Houses, Flowers and Fancy thru JUNE
Westfield, MA — Westfield on Weekends (WOW) and ArtWorks Westfield, are delighted to extend “MAGIC in the GARDEN: Elves and Fairy Houses, Flowers and Fancy,” thru June 30 at the WOW Creative Arts Center, 105 Elm Street in the heart of Downtown Westfield Cultural District.
Building on strong sense of community and cultural engagement fostered by the Downtown Westfield Cultural District, the collaborating exhibition organizers noted the popularity of this whimsical spring gallery experience.
“This collaborative group art show has proven to be one of the WOW Center’s most popular - especially for families, who find the fairy-tale art pieces on display, so imaginative and accessible to children, Bob Plasse, WOW’s President explained. “With the addition of the artwork of three new artists, it is now even more magical."
The giant flower creations/decorations of artist Galina Sidoryuk and ironwork fiddleheads and “whimsies” as they are called by artists Kris Hedblom and Julian Fleron were first seen at the recent “Articulture” event of Artworks Westfield on May 3 and are now part of the exhibition.
“It is so wonderful to experience the creative synergy that happens between community arts organizations.” Bill Westerlind, President of Artworks Westfield said. “It bodes so well for the future calendar of Westfield events, as community arts programmers like WOW and ArtWorks work together for the benefit of our city."
Anchoring “Magic in the Garden” are the works of award-winning artists/children’s book illustrators, Gary Lippincott and Linda Graves, whose paintings and sculptural pieces brim with elves, wizards, and woodland beings in springtime settings.
Other exhibiting artists include local and regional artists Donna Carmel, Marie Crane-Yvon, Richard Nowak, Kelly Rose (Burgess) Veilleux, Ellen Westerlind, Jessica Young, Kim Velky, Suzanne DiSessa, Joan Nelson. Arnie Paye, Francine Pratt, Bonnie Snow, as well as Arts West artists: Cathy Guidetti, Marie Flahive, Geri Hamel, Lucia Sullivan, Susan Racine, Sanchitha Vishwanath, and WOW’s Artist-in-Residence Don Blanton.
Members of the Westfield Woman’s Club Garden Club have contributed a number of fairy villages, while Stanley Park is displaying some of the fairy houses, completed for their woodland Whimsical Fairy Walk earlier this month.
