"My Favorite Things" Exhibit

Heralding a new year of presentations and its twentieth anniversary WOW’s Creative Arts Center has extended “My Favorite Things,” spotlighting the work of Westfield artist James-Johnson-Corwin until February 28 at the Creative Arts Center of Westfield on Weekends (WOW) at 105 Elm Street in downtown Westfield.

The expansive exhibit of more than 70 works demonstrates the wide range of subjects that inspire Johnson-Corwin.  From seascapes and scenes of nature to portraits of everyday objects like a dial phone, a No. 2 pencil, and colorful fruits and vegetables. His work reflects the artist’s love of color, light and shadow, as he explores his memory and a world of possibility.

Johnson-Corwin has complemented his show with ongoing work at his easel that he has set up in the window of the Center and during gallery hours he can be seen completing his latest work of art.

Working in various mediums, Johnson-Corwin’s work has been shown locally, as well as published in regional newspapers, magazines, and trade publications for decades. An active community volunteer and longtime WOW board member, Johnson grew up in suburban Boston, the son of a classically-taught portrait artist mother, who taught and encouraged him to explore his creativity through visual art.

His eclectic resume includes corporate storyboarding; newspaper layout, design, and illustration; and a long-term creative association with drummer Darren Costin of the 80’s British new wave band Wang Chung. He currently works as Multi-Media Manager for Reminder Publications.

“Since my work is so often a reflection of my childhood, family life, places, things, and memories, it is an honor to have it displayed by a community organization that has meant so much to me as a volunteer and Westfield resident.”

The exhibit is produced by WOW within-kind sponsorship of Reminder Publishing. Johnson-Corwin’s paintings are for sale with a percentage of the proceeds benefitting the programming of Westfield on Weekends.
